a $1,000 less but a 1,000 pounds lighter

Scott came home yesterday and told me his next paycheck would be $1,000 less than normal and I felt oh so glad! To start at the beginning, about a week after Scott deployed, he was a assigned a class date for his space tech school of Nov. 28, 08, the class being near 6 months, and the whole family was on the orders to go, with a PCS (the AF would move us) and the AF personel center told him that he should not have been deployed. Scott would be able to extend for two years (because he had to have so many months of AF retainability to start a new tech school) and then after he graduated he would be able to reenlist in his new space job and get the $37,000 reenlistment bonus. Well to make a really complicated story short and since you already know the ending, Scott didn't get to make that class date, and the new class date (not being over the holidays, resulted in 4 days under a qualifying PCS), and no family on the orders, and because of the later date, Scott had to reenlist before accepting his class date because extending for two years made his retainablity a few months too short, resulting in no $37,000 bonus. (Scott was like one of two in his whole tech school class that didn't get the bonus by the way.) Two weeks after Scott returned from his deplolyment, he left for tech school, but with family. The AF can control a lot of our lives, and may think they own Scott, but they can't tell me were I can or cannot live, they just didn't pay for our move to CA and we remained on the SD housing allowance amount. We also remained on family separation allowance. The $250/mo the AF pays you to make up for being separated for more than 30 days. Because Scott was TDY status, it automatically came in the pay check and we really didn't think too much about it, after all we had felt the AF had already caused us enough harm and that justified getting familly separtion. But anyways, this week, when Scott had to fill out his travel voucher and report his dependendts' address, and we were now actively trying to decieve the AF, we started feeling really wrong about it. And then he got his June 1 paycheck info and saw that family separation was still on it and that was definately wrong. So when Scott went in to report that, he also reported that he shouldn't have received any of it, and so the 5 month amount of $1,000 will be deducted. But boy does that feel better! No matter how unfair we felt the situation worked out, or how easily justifyable it was, it still wasn't honest. Maybe quincidental, but yesterday we also found out good news about some hangups we were having with the house closing, and its looking like it will work out really well for us. People who make bad choices still recieve blessings and good people still suffer through heart aching trials, but I believe people who make good choices recieve a lot more blessings and suffer less self brought on trials.
