Road Trip! Part II

Day 4 we made a scrambled eggs on bagels and we were off to hike and see the canyon in day light!

It was amazing!  Parts of the trail are very near the edge and parts are a further back.   We all hiked 4 miles with me carrying Audrey for most off it (Scott was too sunburned from the pool to pack her!) and then Scott took the little 3 on the shuttle bus between the look outs and Alyse, Lexi, and Alaina, and I walked the trail and met up at the look outs with them, hiking another 5 miles before lunch :)  The bottom left picture shows Angel Trail which I'm back packing into the Canyon on someday!!

Top left shows the view looking back were we've hiked around the rim. We hiked from near those buildings!

Top right again show the view looking back where we have hiked along the edge- didn't realize when we were there, how steep the drop off was there!

There were tons of elk around!  We tried not to get close, but they were all over.  After dinner, we went out to Math Point to watch the sunset but it was very crowded so we walked another mile up to Yavapai Point and got there just in time to see the sun sink into the canyon.  In places during the sun set the canyon looked extremely blue and purple and other places very orange and red.  It was awesome to see such vast differences in the lighting all in the same time frame.

We completed our day with 10 miles logged on the GPS which we only had on during hikes.  After a camp fire and smores, we went to bed tired :)
