Family Reunion 2013 at Sage Hen Reservoir

I'm a complete slacker and didn't carry my camera around (I did carry around a baby or a 2 year old though) and really didn't take all that many pictures at the family reunion.  So I stole my SILs pictures and this time I'm even going to steal her words- imitation is the best form of flattery, right?  Thank you Stacy!! 

"Those of us that could, got together at Antelope Camp Ground on the Sage Hen Reservoir for our annual family reunion. Above is a photo of some of the cousins, 14 out of 22. Most of the grown up cousins weren't able to make it this year. We all made it to camp on Friday. Kristey being the last to show up since Amanda started school already. She lucked out and saved her flat tire until she arrived which gave Mike and Richard something to do. The kids all had fun by the reservoir playing in the mud, water and catching frogs. We enjoyed yummy camp food and did some fun crafts. Aunt Carla's knotting and beading table was a big hit with everyone. Some of us went on a long hike around the reservoir while others fished or played in the raft and kayak in the water.  In the evening the kids all put on a show for us to enjoy. Then we had a fire to roast marshmallows and Twinkies. It was a fun weekend and we ended with a family group photo." -- Stacy

Mud, mud, mud and frogs, frogs, frogs!!!
The kids played on the beach, catching at least 100 little frogs! They were all varying degrees of muddy, but Layla was by far the muddiest!  She rolled around in a mud hole like a pig and had a blast until it was time to get washed in freezing water!  That shirt was never the same and got tossed.

We tried an idea I found on pinterest.  We filled waffle cones with strawberry and banana slices, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows, then wrapped them in foil and melted them in the fire :)

I was in that group that took the long hike around the reservoir- and so was Scott, Alyse, Lexi, Alaina, Layla, AND Landon.  Audrey stayed with Grammy.   We estimated it to be a 4 mile walk and the terrain starting out was pretty smooth and off we went (thinking this would be 1-2 hours).  Then it got rough.  We crossed 5+ canyons (were the water flowed into the resevoir) and I ended up in mud up to my knees (in my good tennis shoes) in a few places!  Landon walked about 2 steps of it and drank most of the water we had with us.  It got really really long and hard and really rough.  Layla got soaked up to the armpits and walked 3/4 of it in wet jean shorts.  Inspite of all the hardships, the girls NEVER fussed, whined, or complained.  Lexi and Alyse led the pack with James and Layla and Alaina trudged on like troopers.  I was impressed because I wanted it to be done already and I wanted to sit and cry and complain.   Landon cried and fussed even though he got carried the whole way but the girls did awesome.  It was officially 3.7 miles (not all that far) but it was rough terrain!  Next time, I'll pass on that hike and enjoy the kayaking and rafting!  We did have fun on it too :)


 Landon loved being outside (other than getting carried around the lake!) and came home exhausted and DIRTY!  The girls had lots of fun with cousins catching frogs, crafting, making bracelets, playing in the hammock, and putting on a dance show for us.  It was a great weekend!
